James Morrison - James Morrison's Stranger Song

British singer James Morrison had revealed his 2006 hit 'Wonderful World' was written about a drunk and deaf man he befriended on a bus.

James Morrison wrote 'Wonderful World' about a drunk, deaf stranger.

The British singer - whose 2006 track came eighth in the UK singles chart - has revealed he wrote the song about a man who befriended him on a bus.

He explained: "I got on this bus and there was this p**shead on there. He was a bit of a drunk and he was trying to hug everyone. He was trying to get cuddles and he was deaf as well so he was shouting 'I love you' to everyone on the bus and freaking everyone out.

"But I wrote a song about it. 'Wonderful World' was written for him because I felt sorry for him man. He had a lot of love to give and nobody wanted it. It's a sad story man."

The 'Broken Strings' hitmaker says he was so touched by the man's behaviour, he was soon replying with his own declarations of love.

"He came up to me - which usually happens when crazy people are around, and he was like 'I love youman!' And I was like, 'I love you too, dude!' and gave him a hug. I don't know, I just felt really sorry for him, he's so alienated from everyone anyway because he's deaf. He wasn't being aggressive either, he was being really loving but everyone was just being weird with him, which I can see why."

Competition: Support James Morrison at Hall for Cornwall - James Morrison

JAMES MORRISON will be returning to his Cornwall roots to perform a special one-off gig at the Hall for Cornwall on July 19 and he is looking for a Cornwall-based artist or band to be his support act.

The show is in aid of Tanya's Courage Trust, a charity helping young people with cancer, which James supports.

One MP3 track or a link to a website/MySpace, name, address, contact number, age and a photo.

The closing date for entries is July 1, when James will choose the winning local act to support him.

James said of the competition: "When I was starting out, I wanted nothing more than to play live, but there weren't enough places and I had to move away from Cornwall to get my music heard.

"With this gig I hope to give some local musicians a focal point and a chance to get up, impress everyone, and move forward with their music careers.

"The stage at the Hall for Cornwall is a brilliant place to perform, so come on, send me your music and let's go!

"It'll be an amazing night and I hope we can put on a great show, as well as raising money and awareness for the Tanya's Courage Trust, an organisation who work so hard on behalf of young people with very serious illnesses."

James Morrison to perform for Tanya's Courage

Cornish singer songwriter James Morrison will be returning to the Hall for Cornwall this summer to stage a special concert. The star is donating his fee to the Tanya's Courage Cornish charity. It's not the first time the singer has worked with the charity which supports local youngsters with cancer. In early 2007 Morrison made a dream come true for Cornish fan Natalie Edwards when he met her backstage and made her a coffee. Nikki Empel-Newman, Trust Manager of the Tanya's Courage Trust, said: "We are so grateful to James for him choosing to support our charity, it really is such an amazing thing for us, and we are very excited. "It is very difficult in Cornwall as it is such a small county and there are so many worthy causes out there, but for James to choose to support us is just such an honour and we are so very grateful. Tanya Billing, a courageous 17-year old, fought Adult Acute Myeloid Leukaemia with courage and determination. In the last 20 months of her short life, she expressed the wish to help others. Tanya's Courage Trust aims to do just that. James Morrison grew up in Cornwall, where he could often be found busking in Newquay and Truro. He achieved worldwide success with debut single 'You Give Me Something', which reached Top 5 in the UK. He released his debut album 'Undiscovered' on 31 July 2006. The album received positive reviews with the The Sun newspaper claiming 'There isn't a bad track on it'. The album topped the UK Albums Chart on its first week of release. The album sold over 1 million copies around the world by the end of 2006, making Morrison the best selling male solo artist of 2006 in the UK. In 2007 the star was appearing at a sell out show at the Hall for Cornwall. He worked with Tanya's Courage Trust to make a dream come true for Cornish teenager Natalie Edwards. At the time Natalie was undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma disease. Natalie said soon after the surprise meeting: "He made me a cup of coffee, not many people can say they've had coffee made by James Morrison. James Morrison's concert in aid of Tanya's Courage takes place at the Hall For Cornwall on 19th July 2010.

Climate change charity Global Cool hung out at the V Festival last weekend as part of its ‘Do it in Public’ summer tour around the UK and as part of their plan to encourage festival goers to use public transport they had a quick natter with James Morrison.
